What did they find?
Depart Saigon for a day venturing out in the Mekong Delta. Drive through scenic countryside toward Ben Tre, a rural town perching on a branch of the mighty Mekong where we start our expedition, first with a bicycle. Peddle through lush green orchards and palm shaded rural tracks and crisscrossing silt laden canals, enjoying peaceful and scenic settings of the delta.
En route we make a break at a orchard home where we have a refreshment while some local folks perform traditional instrument and chanting. We also visit a local house where the friendly host at his middle age is a dedicated collector of ceramic and porcelain antiques. Let’s have a chat with him over a cup of tea after browsing through his enormous collections. Lunch time, we go to a cottage peacefully tucked amidst the green surroundings. You may want to try some delicious rural dishes (at your own expense).
Hop on a wooden rowing sampan for a very scenic ride through nypa shaded canals, then transit to the motor boat to go back to town. Before arriving in town, pull the boat over and visit a family-run brick factory where you see the kilns and age old process of baking clay blocks. When in town, leave the pier and hop on your vehicle for the journey back to Saigon.
